One page, six cards. Cut on the dashed lines. Do one rung a day, and count the reps.

My TRY-IT Ladder

Five minutes a rung (or count the reps: a number today, a bigger number tomorrow). Stop while it's fun.

  1. Bedroom
  2. Basement
  3. Garage
  4. Backyard
  5. Field

From the picture book That's a WIN!

Rung 1BEDROOM

Sit in a V. Chomp a rolled sock ball.

Safe way: clear the floor first. Sock balls only, no bats in bedrooms.

That's a WIN if: more chomps in a row than last time.

Five minutes (or 10 chomps today, 12 chomps tomorrow). Stop while it's fun.

Rung 2BASEMENT

Tape four bases. Walk them in order, stomping the chant.

Hit it! DROP it! Run to FIRST!
Round to SECOND, round to THIRD!
Zoom, zoom, zoom... and STEP on HOME!

Safe way: flat tape, never pillows.

That's a WIN if: more times around, with MORE steps on EVERY base, than last time.

Five minutes (or 10 stomps around the bases. Break out a stopwatch if you really want to see a child's face light up). Stop while it's fun.

Rung 3GARAGE

Point, step, follow through: a foam ball at a tape X.

Safe way: car out, door down, a grown-up there.

That's a WIN if: more THWAPs out of 10 than last time.

Five minutes (or 10 throws at the X today, 12 throws tomorrow). Stop while it's fun.

Rung 4BACKYARD

Helmet on. Hit off a tee, bat DOWN in the box, then run.

Safe way: everyone else outside the big circle. Reset only after the bat is down.

That's a WIN if: more hits out of 5 than last time.

Five minutes (or 5 swings off the tee today, 6 swings tomorrow). Stop while it's fun.

Rung 5FIELD

With a grown-up, walk the bases, then jog them.

Safe way: helmet on, and only on a free field.

That's a WIN if: more times around, with MORE steps on EVERY base, than last time.

Five minutes (or 2 times around the bases today, 3 times tomorrow). Stop while it's fun.

At the tee, chalk two marks: a big safety circle two bat-lengths around the batter and tee, which nobody else enters while the bat is up, and a small bat-drop box by the back foot, outside the path to first. · books.gameonusa.com/practice
